Samoan Measles Epidemic 2019 claimed 0.041% of the Samoan Population: A COVID 19 comparison.

For the moment Samoa has not suffered any COVID 19 cases after the Measles epidemic late last year, the COVID 19 would undoubtedly destroy not only the fragile Samoan economy it would destroy the very fabric of Samoan society to the levels similar, if not worse, than the Spanish Flu epidemic a century ago.

Making a comparison mortality rate calculation of the COVID 19 Pandemic, with the Samoan Measles epidemic, which claimed 0.041% or 83 out of 200,874 Samoans, back in September 2019, till December 2019.

0.041% of the Samoan population died from the Measles or 83 Samoan deaths from a population of 200,874.

National Comparisons:

Australia: 0.041% of the Australian Population would be 10,086 deaths.

New Zealand: 0.041% of the New Zealand population would be 1964 deaths.

Italy with their perpetual COVID 19 mortality rate the percentage of their population were to equal the Samoan 0.041% mortality rate from the recent Measles epidemic, then 0041% of the Italian population would equal to 24,796.8 deaths.

24, 797 deaths in Italy would equal the 83 Samoan deaths, if we were to compare Samoa's population with Italy, in percentage terms.

In America, this 0.041% of the American population would equal 134,152 deaths. 0.041% mortality rate was the 83 Samoans who died in the 2019 Measles outbreak.

COVID 19 has Spread the pandemic of Global Xenophobia: The Samoan case. By Tim B Tufuga

Global xenophobia has now become the necessary draconian restrictive measures for almost all global governments, in response to the COVID 19 crisis. In so doing, Sovereign National borders, even from within States and Provinces, are having to shut down borders, to any foreign traveller, sea going vessel and aircraft, and, in thus, transforming the Tower of Babel of globalisation, and, the internationalism of the Anarcho-Capitalist system, to have to bow and on and their knees, to a microorganic viral killer, now coined, the COVID 19.

Draconian laws have been enforced by Sovereign Nations, with many State, Provincial and National Governments having to enforce state of emergency strictures to, hopefully, curtail and contain, the malicious spread of the COVID 19 viral infection throughout the world. Samoa, although, is presently unaffected by the COVID 19 pandemic is not mutually excluded from the global effect of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Samoan situation may be comparable to the spread of Christianity due to its splendid isolation, Samoa has yet to report any COVID 19 cases. And, like Christianity, in 1830, Samoa, will most likely be amongst the last Nations to have reported cases of COVID 19.

In the meantime, the State of Emergency measures have been enforced throughout Samoa, effectively shutting Samoa out from the rest of the world from crucial importation of necessity supplies of food and resources which would include fuel, oil, diesel and so forth. The nation’s social and economic sustainability is reliant upon what National reserves that are already within the Nation, that will hopefully sustain the Nation’s functional survivability for the foreseeable future. The Samoan seaport, at Apia, and only airport, are accepting only Samoan citizens returning home from New Zealand. Samoan travellers are banned from Australia and any other Nation.

The only General hospital in the Nation will not cope with the expected influx of patients once the COVID 19 strikes the Nation.

A population of 194,000 will not be able to contain the spread of the virus in a Petrie Dish like Samoa, the spread would have a similar impact as the Spanish Flu back in 1919. The impact of that particular pandemic upon the Samoan nation was phenomenal.

As Australians fight on the supermarket aisles for toilet paper, in Samoa, the Samoans have been urged by their Prime Minister to resort to ancient food sourcing, utilising the land and sea, for their food source. Soon almost all western imported food supplies will soon be depleted from all stores since the import of food supplies from trade ships have been reduced.

The situation, as it stands for the Samoans during the COVID 19 crisis, remains precautionary restriction of movements, and assembly of not more than five people at any social context.

Presently the only contact with the outside world, for the Samoan Nation, and their people, is through social media sources, and the local television network, which is directly linked to the New Zealand television network.

The Mootootua Hospital are presently determining the medical conditions of the eight quarantined Patients’ whether they are suspected COVID 19 cases or are merely other medical conditions. If, however, the patients’ presently quarantined are indeed COVID 19 cases, then almost certainly Samoa will be unable to contain the outbreak and attempt to lock, and contain the gate, with government restrictions, after the COVID 19 horse has bolted.
